Competition Divisions

ASL 2 ran two parallel elimination brackets in the Pro League - Open Weight 3v3 and Under 90kg 3v3 - with $4,000 cash and a belt for each winning team. Team matches are no-gi with three rounds of three minutes and a 1-minute break between rounds. Teams of up to 4 (3 active + 1 optional bench) - three on the mat, one on the bench. The same format returns for ASL 3.

The Amateur Division made its debut as the curtain-raiser at ASL 2 on 11 July 2026 at Legacy Combat Sports Stadium, Kincumber. Blue Belt 4-stripe and under, 18+, 3v3 (+1 bench) elimination format across five weight brackets (Open, U90kg, U80kg, U70kg, U60kg). $200 per team flat ($50 per athlete). Teams register up to four athletes - three on the mat and one optional bench athlete. Bench substitutions are only allowed during the 1-minute breaks between rounds. If at least one athlete survives to the end of a round, the team resets to its full lineup for the next round.

Submission is king - a legal submission ends the bout immediately. A team also wins on the spot if it eliminates all three of the other side's active athletes in Round 1 or Round 2 - a full-team elimination TKO, with no further round contested. If the final bell arrives with no finish, three judges decide by majority: genuine submission attempts and near-finishes weigh first, then attacks that create real danger, aggression and pace, progression to dominant attacking positions, and clean rescues. There is no overtime in the team format, and defending or stalling never wins a decision.

It depends on the format. In team play, straight ankle locks and kneebars are the only legal leg attacks - all twisting leg locks (heel hooks, toe holds and similar rotational attacks) are banned. In the 1v1 division, White and Blue belts compete under the same restricted standard over 6 minutes, while Purple belts and above compete fully open over 7 minutes - heel hooks and all twisting leg locks are legal, in both gi and no-gi.

If a 1v1 bout has no finish in regulation, it goes to a 1-minute sudden-death round: win by submission, or by a takedown into a dominant top position held for a 3-second referee count - closed guard does not count. Still level? One more 1-minute golden-score round, first to score. After that, three judges must pick a winner - no draws - scoring closeness to a finish first, then takedowns and top control, then pressure, pace and aggression.

The Pro League splits into two brackets: Open Weight 3v3 (no upper weight limit per athlete) and Under 90kg 3v3 (every athlete in the team must be at or below 90kg). ASL 2 ran both brackets, and the same split returns for ASL 3.
